Connecting Kids with Careers

ClimbHI aims to educate students about future career options. Its largest initiative is the LEI program (for lead, expose, inspire), an annual event sponsored by Hawaii Tourism Authority where high schoolers spend a day learning about the hospitality industry through hotel tours and a career fair filled with tourism-related businesses.

The theme of this year’s Lead, Expose and Inspire Program, LEI, April 16-17 on Hawaii Island was the wind of the Hawaiian Islands, and like the makani of the Hawaiian Islands, each person’s wind sets them on a different journey — one that consists of their dreams and aspirations.

Inspiring The Next Generation

The Marketing Intern for ClimbHI is an exciting role that provides an opportunity to gain exposure to many businesses in Hawaii while assisting in providing visibility to LEI, a workforce development program for over 500 high school students in partnership with the Hawaii Tourism Authority and over 40 participating businesses.

Older Workers Are Staying Put – The Visitor Industry Has Increased Efforts to Attract Younger Employees to Provide Balance with Veterans

While older workers bring much to the table in terms of skills, experience, attitude and teaching capabilities, Hawaii’s visitor industry needs a balance of older and younger workers so the intellectual capital gets passed from one generation to the next, said David Uchi­yama, vice president of brand management for the Hawaii Tourism Authority.

On April 25, ClimbHI, a local nonprofit (501c3) organization, in partnership with the Hawaii Tourism Authority, launched LEI, an inaugural workforce development project for 300 high school students from economically disadvantaged areas on Oahu.
