Students get a ‘Leap-Start’ into high-demand I Students get a ‘Leap-Start’ into high-demand IT jobs

A new program is training University of Hawai‘i students to enter the critical, growing information technology (IT) sector by providing practical experience with the help of local companies. Computer and technology occupations are promising career fields, with related employment projected to increase 13% nationally between 2020–30. In Hawai‘i, employment in the computer and mathematics occupation group is forecast to increase 7% from 2018–28.
After piloting the initiative for 6 months, UH announced the IT/Cyber Leap-Start Experience Excelerator Program, which provides significant real-world professional experience for IT and cybersecurity students approaching graduation, and recent UH graduates who need practical work experience. Leap-Start’s goal is to improve the workforce readiness of students and graduates to successfully compete for IT and cyber employment in Hawai‘i while providing employers with much needed resources.

ClimbHI builds school to hospitality job pipeline ClimbHI builds school to hospitality job pipeline with new program

Hawaii career development nonprofit ClimbHI has launched yet another program to connect students to jobs in the hospitality industry.

Hospitality for Me is a partnership with Hawaii industry leaders, businesses and organizations that connects schools with resources that prepare students for the workforce. According to officials with the Hawaii Department of Education, Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation will also become its own academic pathway in the 2023-2024 academic year.

Mahalo to the industry for coming together and already providing over 250 opportunities for our local schools.

Mahalo to Hawaii Women in Lodging & Tourism, Fairmont Orchid, Maui Hotel & Lodging Association, Hawaii Tourism Authority, Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association Hawaii Island Chapter, and Mauna Kea Resort.

We are pleased to announce our second annual HLTA/ClimbHI Educator Awardees:

The winners also will have access to a range of career development opportunities, including briefings from tourism management and marketing leaders, job shadowing and on-site learning at a hotel, and mentorship from HLTA’s Women in Lodging & Tourism.
